Dedicated To Those Beaglers and Friends

Who Have Passed On In 2003 & 2004 &2005 & 2006

May your chases be long and your checks be short

Please submit the names (and photos, if you have them) of beaglers who have passed away so that we can all remember them and the good times we've enjoyed. I'd like to thank Mike White, CKC Beagle Representative Nova Scotia for his suggestion to include a page such as this on this site and his thoughtful input, help with editing etc. on the entire site.

Jim Burke, A lifetime member of the Bellevue Beagle Club, Jim was a gentle soul who was almost a senior when beagling started to catch on in Newfoundland in the 1970's. This did not stop him though, and he became a well respected member of the beagle community.  His happiest and proudest moments were spent running his beagles at Northern Pond, looking for that elusive "Great One". Jim did finish FTCH Dusty Road Rex in the 1980's. As his health deteriorated over the years, his son Jim or Tom would indulge him in his greatest past-time, and he would come to a trial and sit and have a yarn and a swally with anyone who would listen. He was a true sportsman, who enjoyed the real spirit of beagling. Jim passed away at the grand age of 85 Feb. 2007. His children said the following about him "Our Dad will always be remembered for his ability to entertain everyone with his accordion music, his wonderful sense of humor, and for his greatest passion in life-training the pups and hunting with his beloved beagles."

John Moulaison posing FTCH Getemout's Singing Cricket 2002

MOULAISON, John Joseph - 51, Beaver Bank, passed away February 18, 2007. Born in Yarmouth, he was a son of the late William and Blanche (Doucette) Moulaison.   John Moulaison was a friend and a fellow beagler who was an avid woodsman who loved hunting and fishing and it was only natural that he loved the hounds that he used for hunting.  John was a member of the Atlantic Beagle Club. He was a member you could count on. If something had to be done, he'd be there, "a real worker". During his short career as a beagler John owned a few note worthy dogs: FTCH Otterbrook Franko,  FTCH Getemout's Singing Cricket and FTCH Moulaison's Black Jack .  Cricket produced FTCH Moulaison's Bounty Hunter who needs a few points for his International.  Moulaison's Saucy Dutchess who need one more first for her Field Championship. She was also later bred to IFC Armando's Levi and produced at least 4 FTCH's for Chris and Pauline Pawson.

About four years ago John decided on a career change which traumatically changed his life style. He did not have the time that was need to continue beagling or many of the other thing he loved to do so he gave them up. John was a dedicated family man and like all people his family came first but he deeply  loved the woods and all outdoors.  Submitted by Jim Merritt and Mike White.

Robert Youngman posing FTCH Forest Hill Dottie in 1971

Robert (Bob) Youngman passed away March 30/06 at the age of 69 after a lengthy battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Bob was a well respected CKC beagle judge of both LPH and Brace in the 60's and 70's. Bob was a personal friend of mine and we spent many enjoyable days and nights, running hounds, hunting and fishing. One of his personal, favorite hounds was FTCH Youngdora's Polly, a Weir Creek bred bitch. Bob was my mentor as far as hound work went. He was uncompromising and the most honest, straightforward person I've ever met. Bob always took a moment or two, to answer any question, and when he replied, you listened, because it was always truthful and usually right on the money. Bob gave up judging in the late 70's because of his health and turned his considerable talents to antique and especially decoy collecting. He became a renown expert on Canadian decoys, and collecting was his passion until his death. Bob is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dora, and 4 loving daughters, as well as grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The death of Robert McGlashing, age 85, of Westford Nursing Home, Port Elgin, occurred at the home on Thursday, March 9, 2006.

Born in Cape Tormentine, he was a son of the late Harvey B. and Emily (Snowdon) McGlashing. Formerly employed with the CN Railway as a conductor and brakeman, he retired to Bible Hill with 35 years of service. In 2003, he came to live with his nephew, Allen and Margaret McGlashing in Melrose, NB. An avid gardener and beagler, he showed his field trial dogs throughout eastern North America with great success.

By Dan Kane:
I believe Bob could be credited with 49 Ftchs...mostly LPH types even though some may have been titled when Brace on Hare trials were run in Nova Scotia....Prior to trials Bob was stricley a hunter and he did show dogs then as well......Bob got his real start in the winners circle after he aquired, from Earl Corish, and finished SilverCove Beauty She was out of FTCH Scott Hall Buddy by FTCH Silver Cove Sassy. Bob bred Beauty to FTCH Oakleaf Buddy and success followed. The most noteable from that breeding was FTCH Robanit's Gruff who produced 12 FTCHs right in Bob's kennel before ever being offered at pulic stud. In later years he aquired and finished Maple sugar Bugle Ann ( I believe that was her proper name ) from Derril Overitt of Vermont and Bob was off agian with a new bunch of FTCHs.
For someone who could, respectively, be considered a back yard breeder it would be safe to say he did very well.
One wonders how much more he would have accomplished had he been one to broadcast his dogs and have to-days options and facilities to get dogs out and about the various beagling circuits....Not being a TREND breeder, I suspect he would have continued to live by his own creed .......

Mike Cooke passed away in Halifax on Jan. 26/06 at 7:30 pm. He had been battling with some serious health problems for the past few years, one being cancer. Mike enjoyed a number of sports which included fly fishing, deer hunting and his passion for beagles. I can remember as a young teenager getting excited to get the chance to go hunting hare with Mike and his hounds. Mike always had good hounds that were from some of the old maritime bloodlines. He started attending field trials in the late 90`s and was very proud of his champion hound FTCH Eastcreeks Pretty Girl Callie. Mike ran Callie in the Canadian Nationals 2 times and she place 2nd and 3rd. Callie got second place when she was nearly 8 years old but Mike knew she still had what it takes to do well in LP trials. Here are a couple photo`s of Mike posing the pride of his kennel FTCH Eastcreeks Pretty Girl Callie at the Canadian Nationals. Rest in peace Mike and keep them running, You will be with me when I run.

Dewey Piche with IFC Sabattus Mountain Cricket at Canadian Nation Trial Oct. 2005

Dewey Piche  Dec. 5/05

It is with a heavy heart that I write this post. I want to thank all the people who have called, sent cards and letters and emails . It has helped comfort us in these times of sorrow.
My dad was very proud of his dogs....he ran every day and knew how to get the best out of a dog. When he would show up at a trial, you can bet he had a competitor!...in the 1980's he finished two hounds..a brother and sister....fc leb city simon(4 wins) and one of his favorites,...ifc round pond heidi(12 licensed wins and finished 3 times over)...in the 1990's he didnt really trial much but came back to the trial circuit in 2003...the last 3 years have been quite a ride for him....we finished ifc sabattus mountain buddha and ifc sabattus mountain cricket...this brother and sister combo have a combined 19 licensed wins in the last 3 years, both winning on snow.my father measured all his hounds by their ability to run in the cold and snow...if they couldn't run in deep cold snow, he didnt have much use for them.
my father and my daughter (brittany piche) were very close....she would help him with the dogs and go to many trials with him...this was always a highlight for my dad to go to a trail with Brittany, win ,lose or draw...they had many good times together.
He also enjoyed the many trials we attended in Canada...the highlight always being the Candaian Nationals.

The following is a copy of Mr. Frank Strickey's obituary. Frank lived in Cape Breton and was a life long Beagler and Field Trial Judge. I recall Frank judging at the Airway Beagle Club as far back as 1969. I am sure Coady MacDonald and/or Dan Kane could add interesting information to this gentleman's beagling history.

Laurier Piedalue with his IFC Concert Bass in 1963

Laurier Piedalue with FTCH Melody Line Rocky & son Yves with Concert Dust

Laurier Piedalue

LAURIER PIEDALUE - Aug. 9/03

It is with great sadness that the family of Mr. Laurier Piedalue announces his death. Mr. Piedalue past away August 9, 2003 at the age of 71, after a long courageous battle with Parkinson disease. Mr. Piedalue was an avid and successful Beagler, prior to his illness. We can look back in the pedigrees of many of today's hounds to see the results of Laurier's breeding. He had many great hounds over the years, such as FTCH Melody Line Aruza, FTCH Melody Line Popeye, FTCH Melody Line Camelia and IFC Concert Bass. For those of you who are new to the sport and may not have had the pleasure of meeting Laurier, you will no doubt recognize his son, Yves Piedalue, who has followed in his fathers footsteps in the sport of Beagling. Mr. Laurier Piedalue's remains have been entrusted to the care of The Lesier Funeral Home, St.-Luc, Quebec (Fri. Aug. 15). Funeral will be held Sat. Aug. 16/03 at 11 am at the Cathechate -St-Jean, 215 Longueuil,  St-Jean Sur Richelieu. My condolences go out to the Piedalue family. May you have some comfort in knowing Laurier is no longer in pain and is resting in a better place. (Sent in by Mike White.)
